Skin is the largest organ of the body. It is the first line of defense acting as a selective barrier between the outside world and your body.
Some of the major skin functions are protecting your body from environmental stress, regulating body temperature, storage of fats and water, and transmission of sensory stimulations like touch.
The real skin consists of three layers:
Epidermis (outermost layer),
Dermis (middle layer),
Subcutaneous (basal layer)
The dermis (middle layer), which we call as the real skin is around 4 mm (half a centimetre) deeper than the epidermis (outer skin-protecting layer).
The epidermis protects the dermis from pollution, chemicals, and other harmful exposure.
While the dermis provides blood, sebum, and other essential nutrients to the epidermis, commonly observed skin concerns like dryness, acne, sensitivities are originated from the dermis.
